Clash of Clans - Best free epic ability to choose

The latest Clash of Clans event has brought a unique opportunity for all players, especially those who do not have the Gold Pass. The event shop has reintroduced three epic abilities, but with one important condition: players without the pass can only choose one of them. This limitation makes the decision much more strategic, as choosing wisely can make the difference between a successful defense or a devastating attack. In this blog, we will focus specifically on that choice: we’ll help you determine which of these abilities is the best option based on your playstyle, your current needs, and the most common situations you may face within Clash of Clans.

Magic Mirror, Serpent Bracelet, or Dark Crown Which One Should You Choose?

I believe the choice depends on two key factors: first, which ability is objectively stronger and more effective; and second, each player’s personal circumstances specifically, the abilities they already have unlocked on their accounts.

In this case, I would argue that one of them clearly falls short compared to the other two: the Serpent Bracelet. While it’s decent for keeping the Barbarian King alive longer especially if you're using him to distract defenses or clear enemy buildings this epic ability requires a significant amount of minerals to upgrade. And when compared to the other abilities available for the Barbarian King, those are undoubtedly more worthwhile, as they perform better across a wider range of attack strategies.

The debate is between the Dark Crown and the Magic Mirror so, which one should you choose? If you already have the Magic Mirror, like many players who purchased it during previous events due to its versatility and power, then the decision is already made: the only viable option is the Dark Crown. However, if you haven’t unlocked the Magic Mirror yet, it’s worth taking a moment to consider what kind of attacks you usually perform and which heroes you have most developed.

Both abilities are powerful, but their effectiveness varies depending on your playstyle. If you typically attack by ground, the Magic Mirror is an excellent choice, especially if your Archer Queen is well-upgraded. This ability summons two clones of the Queen that can deal devastating damage to enemy structures particularly useful for taking out key defenses early in the attack. Even if you already have other abilities for the Queen, the Magic Mirror remains a worthwhile option due to its immediate impact and versatility.

If your playstyle focuses on aerial attacks, the recommendations change considerably. In these cases, the Magic Mirror is no longer the most effective option, as its greatest potential is geared toward the Archer Queen. For those who prioritize air strategies, the combination of Giant Arrows and Puppet Healers proves much more effective at taking down anti-air defenses, paving the way for a clear choice: the Dark Crown.

This ability, being the Minion Prince  first, has shown to be surprisingly strong. It grants him notable durability in combat, making him useful even when deployed in the early stages of an attack. The damage boost provided by the Gloomy Crown turns the Prince into a true threat against enemy defenses, while also offering crucial support to your air troops by soaking up damage and helping destroy key structures.

Additionally, the metagame shouldn’t be overlooked. It’s very likely that, in the coming weeks, new competitive strategies will emerge centered around this ability. Once experienced players begin experimenting with the Dark Crown, there’s no doubt that many others will want to add it to their arsenal.
